Fifty-five macaque monkeys recently became "seized assets" when a toxicology lab went bankrupt in New Jersey. This morning these monkeys were loaded on an air-controlled truck and are all on their way to freedom to 4 different primate sanctuaries, and Mindy's Memory is the first stop! They will be arriving around noon on Friday July 16th. All of this has happened very quickly. As a result, over the past week the sanctuary has been the busiest it's ever been getting a new enclosure built in preparation for the arrival of the 8 monkeys coming to Mindy's Memory, and taking care of all of the logistics that this rescue has entailed.

On Friday afternoon 8 of the 55 monkeys released from the toxicology lab that went bankrupt in NJ were brought to Mindy's Memory.
Linda Barcklay, our Director and Bob Ingersoll, our President released them into their enclosure around 8pm July 16 after their collars had been removed by the vet and the temperature dropped below 90 degrees.
They all quickly and easily went into their new large enclosure. Two of them even embraced immediately after they were released. Linda and Bob said it was very moving!
This morning Linda said that they are all getting along, playing with each other, and enjoying their newfound freedom! They are climbing all the way to the top of their enclosure enjoying all of the space.
We are calling them the Magnificent Eight. JULY 19 On Monday the "Magnificent Eight",
as we are calling them, are adjusting extraordinarily well!
It appears all of the monkeys here at Mindy's Memory are 2 years old at the most except
for one who is about a year older than the other seven.
Today they enjoyed being in a swimming pool, engaged in normal grooming behavior,
played a lot by romping around, swinging on tire swings, jumping from the swings
to the fire hose to the ground, etc....just acting like young monkey boys!
They are eating grass, catching bugs, rolling in the grass, hugging, and doing a
lot of appropriate monkey behavior. The one that appears a bit older is not as
interactive and playful as the others, but hopefully he will come around soon.
We are thrilled with the progress they are making in such a short period of time!
It truly warms our hearts that we are able to provide such a safe haven for them.
The cooperative efforts between all of the organizations and sanctuaries who made this possible has been a wonderful experience and is obviously well worth it for all of these monkeys!
